Basically the title says it all. It's down for more than a half of an hour as of writing time, some people on the web already started to joke that it's dead , I highly doubt that it is, but so far we have no official replies as to what's happening, so we'll just have to wait.

Steam is now back and running for everyone. Still no official info on what has happened.

Almost 24 hours later...apart of HL3 and Epic jokes, still no info on what has happened, nor why offline mode wasn't available.
It seems like Valve will officially ignore all of the addressed questions.
